Dr Chris Hasenkam
Specialist Sport and Exercise Physician
BOccThy(Hons), MD, FACSEP
Chris is a Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician who is committed to assisting people of all abilities to return to function, prevent injury and optimise performance. He believes an understanding of one’s condition is central to treatment and is passionate about injury prevention and wellness for performance (sleep/nutrition/stress/exercise). Chris currently consults from Hawthorn and Warragul.
Chris has a special interest in stress fractures and energy availability, cricket, AFL and golf.
Chris is the State Medical Officer for Cricket Victoria, tours with the Australian Cricket Team (Mens and Womens) and provides match day doctor services for the Sydney Swans. He brings his knowledge and experience from these environments into the consulting room to provide a functional and performance-based approach to treatment. Chris regularly utilises point of care ultrasound to assist with assessment and injection techniques.
He completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne, having completed an undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy with Honours and has completed specialty training as a fellow in Sport and Exercise Medicine.
Chris frequently delivers presentations and participates in workshops to ‘spread the word’ of sport and exercise medicine and the importance of adopting a collaborative and holistic approach to treatment. He has multiple publications in peer reviewed journals, has a thesis investigating the language of pain and is currently developing a review of wrist pain in elite tennis players and golfers.
Chris runs regularly and although his days as a cricketer are well behind him, he enjoys the eternal struggle to lower his golf handicap (between spending time with his wife and young child!).
