Frequently Asked Questions
When should I see a Sport and Exercise Physician?
Our doctors are uniquely placed to provide an accurate diagnosis for a wide range of sports and musculoskeletal injuries and conditions affecting any part of the body. This may also include individuals with medical conditions that impact their exercise capacity and health, such as osteoarthritis, obesity, diabetes, heart disease and asthma.
We take a detailed history, complete a comprehensive examination and review your investigations (scans, blood tests etc.) to formulate a holistic assessment and diagnosis.
Treatment options are then put forward and discussed with you which may involve a specific rehabilitation programme, prescription medications, cortisone or other injection options, or appropriate surgical referral.
Do your Sport and Exercise Physicians perform procedures?
Yes. Our specialists have point of care ultrasound in the rooms, to assist with diagnosis during your consultation, and perform cortisone, autologous blood or viscosupplementation injections if appropriate.
Do I need a referral?
Referrals are recommended as they assist with assessment and communication to your medical team. GP referrals are valid for 12 months from your initial appointment. Please have the contact details of your GP and other treating practitioners available at your consultation.
How long are appointments?
Initial appointments are generally between 30-40 minutes and reviews approximately 20 minutes.
Is this service covered by medicare or private health insurance?
As medical specialists, all consultations are eligible for a medicare rebate, however we do not provide bulk billing services. Medicare rebates are higher for those who obtain a valid GP or specialist referral.
Consultations with our doctors are not eligible for rebates through your private health service, which is consistent with all medical specialty consultations.
Can a Sport and Exercise Physician refer for bulk-billed MRI scans?
Yes. Our specialists have access to fully rebateable MRI scans.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes.
